A unique handmade hornbeam leaf brooch. A blue leaf with swirls of orange and gold and touches of bronze.
The Romans are supposed to have used hornbeam to make their chariots because of the strength of the wood. It's name comes from two Old English words, horn meaning hard and beam meaning tree.
It's just on 2 inches high.
It has a pin on the back and comes in a gift box.
Each piece is handmade and unique.
I cut out each shape and add colour, metallic pigments and resin. The colour moves as it cures, making interesting patterns.
I build up layers of colour giving the piece real depth.
Once cured the finish is rather like enamel.
